Are you frustrated with trying to shoehorn your practice into an academic paper format? If so read on:

After getting a photo essay accepted as a full paper in NordiChi were asked to help develop a new format for Designing Interactive Systems 2014 (DIS 2014). So we are introducing Pictorials: an annotated visual submission.

It is early days, a photo essay is one example of how this format could be used, but this format is at a fragile embryonic stage – so we need good people to help shape and push the potential! The theme of the conference is crafting design, if you are interested please visit the DIS 2014 website.

Green Impact meeting on Monday

On Monday December 9th, between 12 and 3 pm, there is a Green Impact workshop and meeting happening in the Hexagon room of the Lockwood Building. Do come along if you want to talk about the Green Impact program, its work at Goldsmiths, and sustainability, and to share suggestions and feedback about Green Impact activities in the Design Department. And bring some food if you want to have lunch with the group!

Scenari di Innovazione Design Competition

Here’s another competition brief for students and young graduate designers: Artex, the Centre for Artistic and Traditional Handicrafts of Tuscany, is calling for entries to the 10th edition of their “Scenari di Innovazione” design contest. The competitors are invited to submit innovative designs for one of the participating Italian companies, according to the “Atavism&technology” theme and a brief provided by each company. The submissions can use a variety of materials and techniques and they are eligible to win one of 4 prizes amounting to a total sum of 5600 euros. The deadline for entering the competition is March 21st 2014, and the award ceremony and final exhibition of winning projects will take place in April at the International Craft Show in Florence.
