Design alumnus runs LGBT+ fundraiser and art auction for Beirut

Alumnus Daniel Nasr (BA Design 2015) is one of the organisers of Rebuilding Beirut with Pride, an art auction and crowdfunding initiative to support LGBT+ communities in Beirut after the explosion that affected the Lebanese capital on 4 August 2020.

An online auction selling artwork and prints submitted by artists around the world will take place on 22 August; at least three other Goldsmiths alumni have pieces on sale in the collection. The evening will also include performances live-streamed from a limited attendance in-person event at The Bell pub in London. You can get tickets for the event via EventBrite.

Art sales are also taking place via the Instagram account, RBP.auction. Any artists wanting to get involved are welcome to get in touch.

A crowdfunding page is open on GoFundMe to gather donations for rebuilding Beirut and supporting all impacted communities.

Film by BA Design graduate to compete for Best Documentary at Oxford International Short Film Festival

“If I Get Like That Just Shoot Me”, a short documentary directed by Goldsmiths Design graduate Amy Clegg (BA Design class of 2019), is one of the nominees for the Best Documentary award in the 2020 Oxford International Short Film Festival, which will take place on 28-29 March.

Amy’s film, one of 6 short documentaries competing for the award, was developed as part of her graduation project from Goldsmiths Design and looks into the ever-widening gap between the perception and reality of informal care for the elderly. Amy is currently studying for an MA in Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths.
