Research student Alison Thomson has sent us a few words on how the PhD by Design conference in November went:
“The PhD By Design conference was held in the department on 6/7 November and went down with huge success. The event attracted over 80 Practice-based PhD design students from over 45 institutions to vocalise, discuss and work through many of the topical issues of conducting a practice-based PhD in Design. The event enabled early career design researchers to explore a variety of aspects of knowledge production within an academic institution.
Some feedback from people who attended:
“That this kind of event is extremely useful as a development process, an exchange mechanism and a way of meeting up with people and so would be a brilliant thing to continue annually.”
“It was so well organised. Thanks one of the best events I’ve been to”
It was organised by PhD students Alison Thomson, Maria Portugal and Bianca Elzenbaumer who completed her PhD in the department earlier this year. They are now working on how to keep these conversations going through satellite events in other institutions as well as PhD By Design 2015!
