“ELLE DECOR ITALIA, monthly publication from Hearst Magazines Italia, has been chosen by EXPO MILANO 2015 to select, by means of a contest, the icon-object which best expresses the values of WE – WOMEN FOR EXPO.

WE is a project by Expo Milano 2015 launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori. WE talks about food and nourishment and does so by focusing on the women’s culture and its history, traditions and sensibilities.

The entries must reflect the spirit and values of WE, by ensuring that women share and discuss matters of nutrition and the sustainability of the planet and design an object which can be worn (irrespectively by a man or a woman), which has a recognisable identity and which can be manufactured anywhere in the world including independently.”

The end product will be an icon which can be worn to express the wearer’s commitment to the slogan “Feeding the Planet. Energy for life”. The competition is open to all design and graphics creatives, whether they are professionals or students, from the 17th of April to the 21st of May 2014. The Design Marketplace Spring Faire event we had announced a while ago has been rescheduled to give creators more time to curate their work. Instead, it will happen on Friday May 2, between 4 and 10 pm, but the place is the same: the Great Hall at Goldsmiths. 

You can get a stall in the Marketplace for free- all you need to do is send a description of your product(s) with photographs via email. (thedesignmarketplace[@]gmail.com ) Tomorrow, from 5 pm in the NAB Cafe, the organisers are holding a meeting with exhibitors to discuss what they would like to present.

The second-to-last seminar of the Design and Social Science series at Goldsmiths is called “What was visual data?” and it will feature Isaac Marrero-Guillamon & Michael Guggenheim (from Goldsmiths) as speakers. 

The seminar is, as usual, free and open to anyone; it will take place on April 30, starting 4 pm, in room 137a of the Richard Hoggart Building.
