The Undergraduate Show for 2014, “MATTER”, is now over, and what a show it was! For those of you who weren’t there, or even for those of you who were there and want to remember it, we have a lot of pictures from the opening night on our Facebook page. Here’s a first set taken by Nadia Barbu, as well as two higher quality sets by Laura Cuch, one showcasing the people present at the show and the other one with a closer look at the student work being exhibited.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived: the 2014 Undergraduate show “Matter” is about to open. The press and industry view is tonight, and from tomorrow until June 2nd, the show is ready to welcome the public. The exhibition takes place as Dray Walk, 91 Brick Lane (postcode E1 6QL), as part of Free Range graduate shows; entrance is free. You can read a full press release on the event here.

If you’ve been following the show and/or Goldsmiths Design on social media lately, you may have already caught a few glimpses of the varied and innovative student projects that will be exhibited at Matter. But if you haven’t done so yet, there’s still time to have a look at the Matter Facebook and Twitter and at the previews offered on the Degree Shows page on the Goldsmiths website. In addition, you can also (re)read a few of our interviews with students from the class of 2014: Emily Gardner, Belen Palacios, Justin Ramsden.

In any case, MATTER is not to be missed!

BADCL students design Orwell Prize trophy

Three Goldsmiths Design students, Hannah Swingler, Keir Middleton and Shanaz Begum, BADCL year 2, worked on designing this year’s trophy for the Orwell prize, a prestigious award for political writing.

The winner of the award for 2014 was Alan Johnson for his memoir “This Boy”, an account of his impoverished childhood spent in London’s north Kensington area, known today as Notting Hill. Journalism prizes were awarded to Guardian journalists Jonathan Freedland and Ghaith Abdul-Ahad. The winners were announced on May 21st.

Other BADCL students have been just as busy: course leader Rose Sinclair informed us that Glynn Webster and Jemma O’Sullivan were in charge of designing the new library bag for the Goldsmiths library, which you will be able to see in the new academic year.

This year’s Undergraduate Design show, MATTER, is approaching fast! The opening night, for industry and press viewing, is 29 May, starting 6 pm, and the exhibition will be open to the public on 30 May-2 June at Dray Walk, 91 Brick Lane in London (postcode E1 6QL).  The invitation to the show can be seen in the above picture.

At the 2014 show, even the tables used for the exhibition are designed by students, and amongst the nice things awaiting visitors at the show are a cinema space for watching videos and a sponsorhip from Hop Stuff Brewery. The in-development website for MATTER can be found here, and don’t forget you can follow the preparations for the show on Facebook and Twitter in the meantime.
