The Constance Howard Gallery and the MA Fashion programme are pleased to invite you to Fashion Narratives, a display of interactive works in progress that explore the social and cultural contexts of fashion. The projects look at the virtual material and embodied modes of communication in fashion and the shifting relationships between these. They propose new narratives and approaches to practice that challenge the traditional boundaries and perceptions of fashion.

The 2016 Orwell Prize trophies, designed by Goldsmiths BA Design students Archie, Panagiotis and Tom
The Orwell Prize for political writing is looking for a student team to design this year’s trophies for the award ceremony. The competition is open to all current Goldsmiths undergraduate and postgraduate Design students, and for the first time this year it also welcomes applications from BA and MA alumni:
“Design competition for the 2017 Trophies
The Orwell Prize is Britain’s most prestigious prize for political writing. Every year, we award prizes for the work which comes closest to George Orwell’s ambition ‘to make political writing into an art’.
We award prizes in three categories: books, journalism, and the Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils. For 2017 we need a trophy for each prize that is presented.
The Orwell Prize has a longstanding relationship with the Design Department at Goldsmith’s, some examples of trophies from previous years are included in this pack. You may want to build on these ideas, or strike out in an entirely different direction. The choice of material, and almost aspects of the design, are completely up to you. However, the following elements of our visual identity must be included:
An image of George Orwell, specified below (from his National Union of Journalists card)
The text ‘The Orwell Prize’ and the quote ‘What I have wanted most to .. is to make political writing into an art.’
The text font must be in either Gill Sans Nova or Gill Sans MT .
You will be able to gauge other aspects of our visual identity from contents in the attached letterhead and the visuals on our new website: its original design was inspired by Polish Communist propaganda.
In addition you may also want to research the Orwell Prize’s history and values, which you can find at co.uk.
For reasons of simplicity and confidentiality, we would like there to be space for a small plaque (or equivalent, depending on material) to be affixed with the name of the winner.
