Alumnus Hefin Jones chosen for 2015 Designers in Residence program at the Design Museum

hefin jones

Hefin Jones is a 2013 graduate of our BA Design course and currently a visiting lecturer in the Design department here at Goldsmiths. We were very happy to hear that he will be one of this year’s Designers in Residence at the Design Museum starting September.

The brief for the 2015 residency program of the Design Museum was “Migration”: “It can be a reflection of objects or processes that imply movement, or transition, of shifting and cross-fertilising cultures, or of mobility.” The other three young designers to be part of the program are Chris Green, Stephanie Hornig and Alexa Pollman.

This is just one of many successes for Hefin, whose Goldsmiths graduation project, “The Welsh Space Campaign”, was exhibited in Rotterdam, covered by iTV and Wired, and won the 2013 Christine Risley award.

It’s not far away, and we can now give you the official time and place: 5-8 June 2015, at the Old Truman Brewery.

The show’s title is “xv”: “Here you will encounter work measured on scales of impermanent and shifting variables. You will witness a rejection of static identifications and definitions.”

For more information on behind the scenes preparation, follow the xv account on Twitter- and don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook.

[smiths] magazine looking for Senior Design Editor

This just in from [smiths] magazine: they want a Design student to join their team as a Senior Design Editor:

ATTENTION ALL DESIGNERS!!

Are you interested in designing for an official magazine?

[smiths] is the official magazine of Goldsmiths and we are looking to recruit a Senior Design Editor to join us for the next academic year!

Our focus next year will be on creating more print issues of [smiths] but for this to happen we need someone who can –

– Recruit designers to create artwork within the magazine

– Create and oversee the overall design of [smiths]

You would be working closely with the new Senior Editors and writers (all Goldsmiths students!) and we will make sure to organise a few good socials next year!

This would be a great achievement to put on your CV, on top of being a fun and rewarding experience.

For more information and if you’re interested in joining the [smiths] team, please email Daisy Graham at smiths.artsandculture[@]gmail.com.”

Final year undergraduate student Danny Nasr is raising funds for his project “Migrants of Circumstance”, which seeks to aid Syrian refugees currently based in Lebanon. Refugees face many problems, including discrimination and lack of adequate healthcare and education. It is the latter that Danny’s idea aims to address, by developing an informal, community-based educational framework. You can donate to the project until May 31st.
