And since we’re talking about engagement with nature, the Interaction Research Studio are also working with ornithologist Jamie Dunning on designing ‘sunglasses’ for puffins for a study of their bills’ ultraviolet properties:
To study the ultraviolet properties of the puffins bill, we have had to design something to protect their eyes from the light.
Save the dates in your calendar: the 2018 BA Design show, M-O-D (Museum Of Design) will take place on 7-11 June (open to the public 8-10 June, with a private viewing for industry and press on the evening of the 7th). This year, the show is leaving Brick Lane to relocate to the Copeland Park creative hub in Peckham. The Orwell Foundation have once again decided to work with the Goldsmiths Design students to create the trophies for the prestigious Orwell Prize for political writing, to to be presented at an awards ceremony in June 2018.
The competition is open to the following students:

2.MA Expanded Practice
3.PGCE Design and technology
4.Alumni (BA Design, PGCE, MA, graduates in year 2017)
UPDATE: The deadline for submissions has been extended until Friday, 4 May 2018 at 5 pm. The organisers also wish to announce that the chosen submission will receive £500 to support the making of the final awards.
Somewhere’s film The Closer We Get (directed by Karen Guthrie) is screening at Curzon Goldsmiths on Tuesday, March 20th at 18:15 as part of Gold on Film, a festival celebrating films produced by Goldsmiths students, staff and alumni.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Co-Producer & DOP Nina Pope, who is one of the design practitioners supporting and advising our third year BA Design students as Studio mentors. Tickets can be booked online.
